France’s Most Remarkable Venues: 2019 Awards

November 13, 2019

When the Louvre opened its doors to the public in 1793, it started a trend. Over the centuries Paris developed into a hub for magical, cultural attractions that the world could enjoy. Now, it’s a cosmopolitan city overflowing with institutions dedicated to history, science, the arts, and more.

France’s cultural goldmines deserve recognition, and the 2019 Remarkable Venue Awards aim to do just that, with the most recent event taking place at the Montparnasse Tower.

In terms of setting, it doesn’t get much better than this – guests could even spot some of the world’s top cultural venues and landmarks from the vantage point of the tower. No wonder that this year’s RVAs were some of the most competitive around; Paris isn’t short of worthy candidates.

The winners are selected by a panel of cultural experts who analyze customer reviews from thousands of people who have visited these attractions on Tiqets in the last year.

Without further ado, here are the most remarkable museums and attractions in Paris!

Most Remarkable Venue: Musée Rodin

The winner of this year’s Most Remarkable Venue award was up against some intense competition, but in the end, the Musée Rodin prevailed. Its sprawling grounds are a work of art in themselves, with flourishing gardens full of flowers and world-class creations by one of history’s most famous sculptors.

Visitors can enjoy a chronological journey through the artist’s creations, roam through endless gardens that seem impossible in the heart of Paris, and even inspect Rodin’s own private art collection, including works by Van Gogh, Monet, and Munch.

Reviews on Tiqets placed special emphasis on the friendliness of the staff, the wonderful sculpture garden, and the useful audio guide available on-site.

“The Rodin museum is a must-see if you are in Paris. Spectacular grounds and beautiful sculptures.” – Susan, Peru

Best Attraction: ZooParc de Beauval

ZooParc de Beauval is undoubtedly one of the nation’s most popular attractions. With large open spaces for animals to roam, a strong dedication to conservation efforts, and the largest diversity of animal life in the entire country, it’s certainly been a hit with Tiqets customers.

Visitors were blown away by the bird shows as well as the level of care received by the animals. Many reviewers stated it’s the best zoo they’ve ever been to, and we can’t argue with that.

“I’ve been to several zoos in the UK and this one was, by a distance, the best zoo I’ve ever seen – you can tell the animals are happy and the conservation aspect is second to none. We’ll be coming back in 2020 to visit the dome!” – Gavin, United Kingdom

Best Museum: Musée de l’Orangerie

The stunning Musée de l’Orangerie is a treasure trove of Impressionist art, most notably featuring multiple Water Lilies by Monet; a highlight worthy of any museum in the world.

In addition to being able to view these iconic artworks, reviews on Tiqets also focused on the museum’s great collection of 19th-century art, including Picasso, as well as how family-friendly the facilities were. And while it didn’t influence the voting process, we have to mention that several people praised the quality of coffee at the museum’s café!

“Water Lilies by Monet was absolutely breathtaking. I would literally pay to get a ticket every single day just to see this if I lived in Paris. I spent a good couple of hours just taking it all in. Highly, highly recommend to anyone visiting Paris.” – Amanda, United States

• Musée du quai Branly – Jacques Chirac

Best Landmark: Sainte Chapelle

If there was an award for ‘most spectacular stained glass’, Sainte Chapelle would win it every year. This local landmark has been an iconic part of the Parisian scenery since the 13th century, and its timeless beauty makes it every bit as impressive now as it was back then.

Reviews from local Parisians on the Tiqets platform have praised the painstaking restoration work that has taken place on the ground and first floors, as well as the excellent time and crowd management skills of the staff. And, of course, the stained glass windows.

“Breathtaking! Every inch of the Chapelle is a work of art.” – Sumathi, Malaysia

• Sainte Chapelle
• Arc de Triomphe
• Abbaye du Mont Saint-Michel
• Château de Fontainebleau

Most Unique: Musée Bourdelle: Back Side – Dos à la mode

In a city full of distinctive attractions, it was difficult to pick the most unique venue or exhibition. However, Back Side at the Musée Bourdelle set itself apart from the very start. In a society that focuses so heavily on people’s faces, this exhibition examines the exact opposite: how we look from the back.

What can the back of someone’s head tell you about who they are? What messages do we send with our backs, even if we can’t see them ourselves? Back Side goes into detail on how the back has been historically perceived, ignored, and celebrated. From sensual plunging backlines to elegant trains on courtly gowns, one thing’s for sure: anyone who visited this exhibition will certainly want to come back (sorry).

“Lovely curated exhibition blending temporary and permanent pieces together. A very memorable experience.” – Laura, [location unknown]

Full list of nominees:
• Musée Bourdelle: Back Side – Dos à la mode
• Centre Pompidou: Francis Bacon en toutes lettres
• Petit Palais: Paris Romantique, 1815-1848
